As a Cloud Solution Architect at STS, you'll handle complex IT projects centered on Microsoft Azure cloud solutions.

 

How you make a difference in this role:

Enterprise Business Solutions Architect for Cloud Technologies (Cloud Solution Architect) will be responsible for professional IT work of considerable difficulty for Microsoft Azure cloud activities within STS. Under general direction, the Cloud Solution Architect uses technology of complex difficulty to refine the approach to building, maintaining, and expanding capabilities in the State's Microsoft Azure cloud environments. The Cloud Solution Architect will also contribute to policies, standards, and best practices for using the State's cloud environments. This role also assists other Cloud Enablement Team members in governance and communication with State departments. This role is also responsible for contributing to the State's standard tools for the cloud environment including containerization, a DevSecOps pipeline, security, and compliance. The associated tasks include:

  1. Designing the implementation of cloud infrastructure components such as virtual machines, networks, storage, databases, and security components leveraging Microsoft Azure services
  2. Planning the cloud platform development and deployment strategy and timeline which can include proof of concept, pilot, conversion, upgrade, and rollout of new features.
  3. Implementation of automation and orchestration using services such as Terraform and Azure Bicep, Azure CLI, Azure SDKs, and third-party tools to streamline deployment and management processes.
  4. Implementation of security best practices and compliance standards on the Azure platform, including identity and access management (IAM), encryption, network security, and regulatory compliance.
  5. Collaborating with specialists such as network, systems, database, and security personnel to ensure proper planning, implementation, and operations of the State's cloud environments.
  6. Troubleshooting cloud platform problems by working with a cross-functional team to diagnose and recommend solutions.
  7. Implementing and decommissioning of account resources including planning, deployment, verification, and notification to affected teams.
  8. Monitoring and responding to Azure notifications on changes to resources including notifying account team members, planning, and implementing platform and resources changes.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and maintain infrastructure as code (IaC) using tools like Azure Bicep or Terraform to automate the provisioning, configuration, and management of Azure resources.
  2. Set up and manage CI/CD pipelines using Azure services such as Azure DevOps Services, Azure Pipelines, or GitHub to automate the build, test, and deployment of applications on Azure.
  3. Implement and manage cloud technologies within a DevSecOps framework, demonstrating hands-on experience in both development and operations aspects.
  4. Use Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines tailored specifically for cloud infrastructure, ensuring efficient and automated deployment of resources.
  5. Works with cloud platform team members to ensure the compliance of security policies and standards in cloud design and implementation.
  6. Researches and evaluates current and emerging cloud technologies.
  7. Provides guidance to cloud platform development teams to ensure utilization of implementation patterns (Infrastructure as Code), and consistent use of State approved tools.
  8. Works with lead personnel to ensure the cloud platform code follows best practices and standards and appropriately utilizes standard State approved cloud tools.
  9. Works with specialists such as network, systems, database, and security personnel to ensure proper planning, implementation, and operations of the State's cloud environments.
  10. Assists in the management of monitoring of cloud resources, identification of performance bottlenecks, and optimization of resource utilization through capacity planning, performance tuning and cost optimization.
  11. Troubleshoots cloud platform problems by working with a cross-functional team to diagnose and recommend solutions.
  12. Resolves incidents, problem reports, and logs to perform root cause analysis.
  13. Creates and maintains technical documentation, guidelines, and knowledge base articles to facilitate knowledge sharing and collaboration within the team.

Minimum Qualifications:

A bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, information systems, business administration or related field, or equivalent work experience. A graduate degree is an advantage.

Experience:

  1. Five or more years of experience working with the Microsoft Azure cloud platform.
  2. Ten or more years of experience working within software development or Internet-related industries.
  3. Experience migrating or transforming legacy customer solutions to the cloud.
  4. Demonstrated ability to think strategically about business, product, and technical solutions.
  5. In-depth knowledge of and experience with contemporary cloud practices and methodologies, adept at navigating and optimizing cloud environments to align with modern industry standards and best practices.
  6. In-depth knowledge of using both automation and management console in the monitoring and implementation of cloud resources.
  7. Experience in designing, developing, and managing cloud-based infrastructure and applications.
  8. Five years or more of developing and implementing Cloud services and solutions in Microsoft Azure or other comparable cloud service platform.
  9. Five years of experience in code development, cloud technology, or equivalent professional experience.
  10. Three years of experience using programming languages like Java, Python, Terraform, Azure Bicep etc. for automation/infrastructure as code in a production environment for large-scale organizations.
  11. Two years of experience setting up and managing CI/CD pipelines using Azure services such as Azure DevOps Services, Azure Pipelines, or GitHub Actions to automate the build, test, and deployment of applications on Azure.
  12. Demonstrated history of continuous learning and cloud training.
